About the Cause
Gender equality is a cross-cutting theme in all Dubai Cares’ education programs with an approach that aims to secure equal access for boys and girls to safe learning environments with adequate facilities, materials and academic support from gender sensitized teachers and communities.
My Story
Growing up in a third world country in the coastal part of Kenya situated in East Africa region, accessibility to quality basic needs was quite hard for me. At times I was forced to partially drop out of school due to lack of school fees, uniform and even food, and sometimes I had to stay at home for close to an year. I'd then be forced to join my parents in farming activities in order to help them raise money for my school fees. Life was so hard, being that we'd go even a night or two without food but my passion and determination to access education kept the fire burning in me. Some of my friends gave up schooling and were forced into early marriages with some at even nine years. Having experienced that life I'm always saddened by the fact that a few years later early marriage practice is still in place, and my wish would be to cut off that cycle of early marriages by helping to cater their education needs.
