In Eastern DR Congo, armed conflicts cause deep wounds, displacing vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. Homeless and malnourished, they lack resources for essential needs. Providing monthly food assistance is a powerful solution, aiding them to navigate the month with greater ease and dedication.

About the Cause

Poor health and nutrition negatively affect children’s school attendance and ability to learn. We implement school feeding programs that look for alternative ways to ensure sustainable supply of nutritious foods to school children and young people in urban and marginalized areas.

In addition, contaminated water and poor sanitation are big factors that result in the death of children worldwide. In our programs, we always include what is called WASH which means Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. This is done through the design and construction of child-friendly and gender sensitive facilities for sanitation, such as latrines and hand-washing stations. We also provide clean water supply by building water wells and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.

My Story

Challenge: Ongoing conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo heighten the need for securing vital food resources, especially with significant displacements from Masisi, Ruchuru, and Lubero to Goma and Sake. Citizens endure a daily erosion of purchasing power, plunging those below the poverty line into severe famine, unable to afford essential nourishment. Solution: The VEFA Foundation emerges as a crucial response, providing essential food packages (ration) to vulnerable families in North Kivu. This aid ensures continuous nourishment throughout the year, extending support even during the sacred months of Ramadan and Tabaski. Long-Term Impact: The VEFA Foundation plays a central role in the all-encompassing implementation of the project, overseeing planning, transportation, and the distribution of food packages. Each phase, meticulously managed by the Program Manager (Community Services), prioritizes operational efficiency and transparency. A rigorous evaluation process communicates project progress to donors through a predefined reporting schedule, illustrating the tangible impact of their support on the lives of affected communities. Essentially, the VEFA Foundation not only addresses immediate hunger but also strives for enduring solutions. With a commitment to efficiency, transparency, and long-term impact, the foundation aims to bring about sustained and meaningful change for those confronting post-conflict challenges in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
