About the Cause
Dubai Cares’ programs are designed to reduce, if not remove, the greatest obstacles that prevent children and young people in developing countries from attaining quality education. With each intervention, Dubai Cares evaluates the need for assistance across two key areas:
Access to Education which allows Dubai Cares to improve children’s health and learning environment, increase education enrollment and attainment, increase access to education, reduce absenteeism, increase gender parity and increase promotion rates.
Quality of Education which enables early learning, enhances educational attainment and school progression, improves literacy and numeracy skills among children, enables teachers to access teacher training resulting in better learning outcomes, reduce dropout rates and increase primary school attainment.
Dubai Cares is a long-term advocate of safeguarding children and young people’s right to education and is currently playing a global advocacy role in spreading the knowledge about the importance of providing education to the unprivileged children.
We also champion education through research - There is an overwhelming lack of evidence as to what works to promote children’s learning in crisis-affected contexts. Research plays a pivotal role in tackling this issue.
My Story
In Fangak County, children are caught between the horrors of conflict and devastating floods. Government bombardments have destroyed homes, forcing families to flee, while relentless rains and rising waters have submerged entire villages. Schools that once rang with laughter are now ruins or underwater. Desks, blackboards, and books have vanished, leaving children with nowhere safe to learn. Many now gather under trees or in temporary shelters that are far too small, sharing a single pencil or notebook, struggling to follow lessons in overcrowded, unsafe spaces. The shelters provide little protection from sun, rain, or insects, making it difficult for children to focus, study, or even stay healthy. Their daily routines, friendships, and sense of safety have all been swept away, yet they continue showing up, holding on to their right to learn. Community Emergency Response and Development (CERD) is calling on partners like Dubai Cares to provide emergency education support: temporary learning shelters, safe spaces, and education materials. These interventions will give children a chance to continue learning, recover from trauma, and regain hope. For the children of Fangak, education is not just learning it is survival, dignity, and the fragile hope for a safer, brighter future.
