Support the initiatives to make the dreams of children with disabilities a reality in Tanzania. They often face multiple barriers to realize their full potential including poor nutrition and inappropriate health services such as rehabilitation. They experience unequal access to education mainly due to poverty, stigma etc.

About the Cause

Poor health and nutrition negatively affect children’s school attendance and ability to learn. We implement school feeding programs that look for alternative ways to ensure sustainable supply of nutritious foods to school children and young people in urban and marginalized areas.

In addition, contaminated water and poor sanitation are big factors that result in the death of children worldwide. In our programs, we always include what is called WASH which means Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. This is done through the design and construction of child-friendly and gender sensitive facilities for sanitation, such as latrines and hand-washing stations. We also provide clean water supply by building water wells and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.

My Story

Children with disability are among the poorest, most marginalized, and socially excluded groups in Tanzania. They have unequal access to physical environment, health, education, and social support systems. The United Nations estimated that 90% of children with disabilities in developing countries do not attend school. In Tanzania, more than half of children with disabilities do not attend school due to multiple barriers including lack of assistive devices and rehabilitation services, poor nutrition, stigma, high risk of physical, sexual, and emotional violence, exploitation, abuse, poverty and neglect. For instance, in 2020 out of 10,925,896 children enrolled in primary school in Tanzania, children with disabilities were only 55,758. In 2023, around 194,000 children dropped out from primary school including children with disabilities. Children with disabilities have a range of support requirements short of which their right of access to education will be hampered. These requirements have always been unmet as a result, children with disabilities in Tanzania continue to experience the conditions which impact their function in daily life and in access to education. Illiteracy among Tanzanians with a disability is 48%, compared to 25% among those with one. This fund will be used in identification and treatment of school aged boys and girls with disability as well as equipping them with assistive devices necessary for them to enroll and attend school.
