About the Cause

Dubai Cares’ programs are designed to reduce, if not remove, the greatest obstacles that prevent children and young people in developing countries from attaining quality education. With each intervention, Dubai Cares evaluates the need for assistance across two key areas:

Access to Education which allows Dubai Cares to improve children’s health and learning environment, increase education enrollment and attainment, increase access to education, reduce absenteeism, increase gender parity and increase promotion rates.

Quality of Education which enables early learning, enhances educational attainment and school progression, improves literacy and numeracy skills among children, enables teachers to access teacher training resulting in better learning outcomes, reduce dropout rates and increase primary school attainment.

Dubai Cares is a long-term advocate of safeguarding children and young people’s right to education and is currently playing a global advocacy role in spreading the knowledge about the importance of providing education to the unprivileged children.
We also champion education through research - There is an overwhelming lack of evidence as to what works to promote children’s learning in crisis-affected contexts. Research plays a pivotal role in tackling this issue.

My Story

WHAT Due to the effects caused by COVID-19 that started around March, 2020 in Uganda according to the Ministry of Health, women and school children have been affected most. Because of this, as lead team on community social responsibility was to establish a Youth Production and Entrepreneurship Programme (YPEP) to support poor single young mothers and other youth to engage in learning fashion and designing various garments which they can sell to customers and earn some substantial cash by themselves. To me, this means that, if at least 25 women are engaged to become entrepreneur designers every year, as a result of participating in the short training that lasts between 3 to 12 months according to the learner’s capability and time preference; it will help them create self-employment, support others to learn or be employed and start earning an income thus cater for their children, as many of these are single mothers. WHY I started this campaign to see that mothers in a state and environment where their husbands abandoned them due to COVID-19 and family demands, so that they can be supported to gain employable skills during this challenging period, which we don’t know when it will end. To support this cause, I offered the women group with 5 sewing machines as a start up to help them learn as I continue lobbying for more support. The two sewing machines cost me around US$ 96 each. But due to number of beneficiaries, they are few to accommodate 25 of the participants; so, the project still seeking to acquire 5 sewing machines or more. This campaign seeks to fundraise AED 2,000 (equals approx. US$ 612) using Dubai Cares platform so that I can procure more tailoring machines including: manual and electrical machines including knitting and support them in accessing other learning materials, buy sewing materials of various designs, that they can make and sell to earn a living. By donating US$10 will help to buy 1 sewing machine. By donating US$10 can help to cover user-fees for 1 youth (woman / adolescent mother to learn in order to become self-sustaining. By donating US$10 will help to buy learning materials for 1 woman / youth to acquire skills
