"the girl too is a child, and deserves a chance to stay in school"

Covid-19 outbreak aftereffects are still severe and intense for those who are less fortunate, especially in Uganda for girl education, where poverty and discrimination are strongest. Due to this, they are unable to enroll in, complete, or pursue a more realistic education or lead healthier lives. Education is a fundamental human right.

About the Cause

Gender equality is a cross-cutting theme in all Dubai Cares’ education programs with an approach that aims to secure equal access for boys and girls to safe learning environments with adequate facilities, materials and academic support from gender sensitized teachers and communities.

My Story

Two years have passed since the COVID-19 outbreak swept the continent. For all families, such as those in sub-Saharan Africa, including Uganda, the disease's aftereffects are still severe, but the burden is too great for those who are less fortunate. Millions of girls continue to be denied access to a comprehensive education. The families they come from are poor and diversely disadvantaged: The girl is viewed as an easy option for marriage, whereas the boy is a priority child with many chances for a future and education. These restrictions limit the girl child from harnessing existing life benefits for a brighter future including basic education. These need to stay in school and complete their education, yet their families cannot afford to pay for their continued education within the current economic climate. Rural Health Access Initiative (RHAI), with activities based in the rural districts of the greater Masaka region, particularly the Rakai, Masaka, and Isingiro mainstreams gender and advocates for the rights of girls. RHAI proactively engages communities to ensure that girls continue attending school. Our community approach offers to counsel and follow up with the child at home and school to monitor performance, identify difficulties, and determine the best course of action for their success. AED 40,000 is sought to support 60 school-aged children's continued education: (1) School fees – AED 29,600; (2) School supplies – AED 3000; and (3) uniforms – AED 7,400.
