Health and Nutrition

About the Cause

Poor health and nutrition negatively affect children’s school attendance and ability to learn. We implement school feeding programs that look for alternative ways to ensure sustainable supply of nutritious foods to school children and young people in urban and marginalized areas.

In addition, contaminated water and poor sanitation are big factors that result in the death of children worldwide. In our programs, we always include what is called WASH which means Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. This is done through the design and construction of child-friendly and gender sensitive facilities for sanitation, such as latrines and hand-washing stations. We also provide clean water supply by building water wells and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.

My Story

As a school that has been operational for more than ten years, we have insisted on ensuring students support one another as well as the internal and external community such as support staff and labourers. As a school, we spread awareness about numerous campaigns and topics that impact the community for example breast cancer. As a team representing the school, we chose health and nutrition because it is a significant topic that is desperate for charitable aid. Alongside education and having equal rights, health and nutrition is an essential aspect of an individual’s life and taking care of their health. We chose health and nutrition rather than other aspects because of several points we view as significant. The UAE is ranked 26th in rates of obesity at 28.4% and 13th in rates of diabetes at 16.3%. These 2 health issues are directly related to nutrition as it is the main cause behind their occurrence. The rates of these health problems are significantly high in the UAE at the rates mentioned previously, but also in the world as a whole with obesity at a worldwide rate of 13% (tripled since 1975) and the worldwide rate of diabetes at 9.3% and it is expected to rise. Due to that, we believe it is crucially important for us to spread awareness about nutrition and its link to such health issues, as well as to set a part of charity to healthcare and nutritional needs. It has also engaged our attention that many young people do not care about their health and nutrition.
