About the Cause
Gender equality is a cross-cutting theme in all Dubai Cares’ education programs with an approach that aims to secure equal access for boys and girls to safe learning environments with adequate facilities, materials and academic support from gender sensitized teachers and communities.
My Story
Am setting up this campaign because I was once a helpless girl who had lost hope of attaining education. My mother was a single parent who was poor and un educated, she did not have money to take us to school, some times we used to sleep on an empty stomach. she tried all kinds of ways to see that she can educate us but it was difficult, this made me loose hope in many things like being educated, fulfilling my dreams and becoming a lawyer. I felt these were no more for me. when she tried her level best I reached primary seven, she said that's far she can go and I knew too that's far she could stretch. Relatives and friends told her to marry me off, she refused saying however much she couldn't afford paying for my education, I was too young for marriage. God helped me and I got a sponsor who helped me to finish my education. I then after did a research study in northern Uganda which is the poorest region in Uganda, and I discovered parents marry off there daughters as soon as they get there fast menstrual period because they can't afford school for them. This encouraged me to start looking for funds to help these girls because I know how it feels to be in such situation.
