About the Cause

Dubai Cares’ programs are designed to reduce, if not remove, the greatest obstacles that prevent children and young people in developing countries from attaining quality education. With each intervention, Dubai Cares evaluates the need for assistance across two key areas:

Access to Education which allows Dubai Cares to improve children’s health and learning environment, increase education enrollment and attainment, increase access to education, reduce absenteeism, increase gender parity and increase promotion rates.

Quality of Education which enables early learning, enhances educational attainment and school progression, improves literacy and numeracy skills among children, enables teachers to access teacher training resulting in better learning outcomes, reduce dropout rates and increase primary school attainment.

Dubai Cares is a long-term advocate of safeguarding children and young people’s right to education and is currently playing a global advocacy role in spreading the knowledge about the importance of providing education to the unprivileged children.
We also champion education through research - There is an overwhelming lack of evidence as to what works to promote children’s learning in crisis-affected contexts. Research plays a pivotal role in tackling this issue.

My Story

Naigoma Primary School a remotely located Schools in Bukooli North Constituency in Bugiri District, Eastern Uganda, with an enrollment of 509 pupils yet it lacks clean and adequate sanitary facilities. 98% of pupils walk barefooted due to their parents' inability to buy for them Shoes. This forces pupils to go to latrines and other sanitary facilities barefooted hence many times getting exposed to various infections like hookworms, Roundworms, bacteria and fungal infections. Last term alone, the school registered increased in cases of anemia, cough, Abdominal pain, Skin Rushes, Fever, loss of weight and death amongst pupils. According to the District Health Inspector, Mr. Malinga Isaac, out of the 301 pupils from Naigoma taken to Nankoma Health Centre IV, Bulidha Health Centre III and Bugiri Main Hospital with health complications between May and July 2024, 266 Pupils had worm infections, with others showing Syphilis, Candida and other Fundal and Bacterial Infections. All those health complications greatly led to increased rates of absenteeism from School and general poor performance. To help reduce on their Transmission and or Treatment, there's need for every pupil to wear shoes all times, wash Hands at all critical times like after Visiting a latrine, Playing, and cleaning the compound in addition to keeping the latrines and bathrooms dry and clean all the time. We are seeking to buy a pair of Shoes for all the 509 pupils in Naigoma to overcome the above complication.
