About the Cause

Dubai Cares’ programs are designed to reduce, if not remove, the greatest obstacles that prevent children and young people in developing countries from attaining quality education. With each intervention, Dubai Cares evaluates the need for assistance across two key areas:

Access to Education which allows Dubai Cares to improve children’s health and learning environment, increase education enrollment and attainment, increase access to education, reduce absenteeism, increase gender parity and increase promotion rates.

Quality of Education which enables early learning, enhances educational attainment and school progression, improves literacy and numeracy skills among children, enables teachers to access teacher training resulting in better learning outcomes, reduce dropout rates and increase primary school attainment.

Dubai Cares is a long-term advocate of safeguarding children and young people’s right to education and is currently playing a global advocacy role in spreading the knowledge about the importance of providing education to the unprivileged children.
We also champion education through research - There is an overwhelming lack of evidence as to what works to promote children’s learning in crisis-affected contexts. Research plays a pivotal role in tackling this issue.

My Story

This is Naima Abdirahman, I am the founder of Hodmas University College, I am the first female to enter the higher education sector in the south and central Somalia with a focus on helping girls to get affordable university diplomas and degrees and am proud to say that we helped 38 young girls to study with us and help them get jobs after they finished professional short diplomas. I worked for almost 4 years with Malaysian universities and then I knew the real impact and importance of higher education and i decided to take my experience and leave my full-time good paying job to set up higher education institution in Somalia with the target of helping young girls especially and to promote technology degrees among girls. We have the initiative to help all our students including 1student1laptop and a scholarship for girls applying for diplomas and degrees and even providing them textbooks. I worked with the office of the Prime Minister of Somalia for 4 months to make an impact and advocate for girls in the powerful office but the reality is through government it's difficult to make a change that will make an impact and am happy and proud to say that we have 68 girls studying with us now and we reach 120 before the end of the year, Insha Allah. Young people like me are the support and the success of Somalia and your contribution can motivate and empower us. Thank You
