The fund-raising campaign involves equipping a community room with digital tools to enhance the skills of young girls in rural areas in the fight against teenage pregnancy and school drop-out due to a lack of education on reproductive health and menstrual hygiene management for these girls.

About the Cause

Gender equality is a cross-cutting theme in all Dubai Cares’ education programs with an approach that aims to secure equal access for boys and girls to safe learning environments with adequate facilities, materials and academic support from gender sensitized teachers and communities.

My Story

Education for all is a right for every child and a policy advocated by governments. But it has to be said that during the entire schooling process, the female gender is vulnerable. In primary school, for every 10 pupils, only 50% of girls have their certificate to go on to secondary school. As for higher education, only 2% of girls have their baccalaureate diploma to go on to university. The reason for this phenomenon is that most of these girls are confronted with early pregnancies, which causes them to drop out of school at an early age. The cause is simply that these girls are not informed and are not more aware of reproductive health issues. They don't have a place where they can go for sex education or a counselling centre. This project to set up a centre equipped with digital tools will enable campaigns to be launched for girls by girls who have acquired skills in using digital tools. To do this, they are developing a community of practice and exchanges between themselves through a peer-to-peer education strategy. This gives them opportunities for peer-to-peer learning on other topics such as hygiene, WASH and self-promotion.
