About the Cause

My Story

Despite the government effort in skilling and tooling the youth in Uganda, there is still a great unmet need. Unemployment and underemployment are big issues that youth face in Uganda. The overall unemployment rate stands at 9.4% and is particularly high among youth (60% of the unemployed) and those with higher levels of education. According to the Uganda National Planning Authority (NPA), the youth unemployment rate reaches up to 37.8 %. The situation is worse for the youths in rural districts of Uganda The Luuka Youth Apprenticeship Project aims to increase employment and earnings opportunities for 250 targeted youths in Luuka District, Eastern Uganda through informal technical skills training and business support services. The Project targets youths aged 15 to 25 years; 40% male while 60% female from 5 sub counties of Luuka District. See Them Grow Foundation (STGF) will partner with local business enterprises to offer an apprenticeship program for at least 250 targeted young people in 10 areas of vocational training and business support. The 6 fields will include: Animal and livestock management, Tailoring, Shoe making and repair, Hair dressing, Catering & confectionary, Sustainable agriculture. The project addresses the skills mismatch of youth by engaging training providers and private sector employers to offer training and work experience to targeted youth.
