About the Cause
Poor health and nutrition negatively affect children’s school attendance and ability to learn. We implement school feeding programs that look for alternative ways to ensure sustainable supply of nutritious foods to school children and young people in urban and marginalized areas.
In addition, contaminated water and poor sanitation are big factors that result in the death of children worldwide. In our programs, we always include what is called WASH which means Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. This is done through the design and construction of child-friendly and gender sensitive facilities for sanitation, such as latrines and hand-washing stations. We also provide clean water supply by building water wells and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
My Story
Mlolongo town is a small town in Machakos county, in the Eastern part of Kenya with a population of over 150,000. It is a key truck point for long distance truck drivers transporting goods from Mombasa or Tanzania to Rwanda and Uganda. The population of this town is mainly made of young single mothers who are mostly involved in sex trade. This mothers struggle against poverty under the cover of darkness while their young ones wait in the night sometimes without proper security or even enough food. After talking to several of this young mothers it dawns on me that the main reason they are involved in this indecent job is to feed their children. Some complain that they cannot do daytime jobs for they do not have anyone to take care of their kids during the day. They therefore opt to do commercial sex work at night when their young ones are left in the house sleeping without proper security. Some of this young mothers are convinced by the fear of unknown to carry their young ones to the streets and when their ‘clients’ come they are left with their colleagues or even put aside to witness the indecent act. On a plot of 50 x 100 in Mlolongo Phase 3 I aspire to build a daycare to provide young children between the age of 6months to 6 years access to free care and free meals .This will help carb early prostitution and HIV infections among this young adults and help them engage in meaningful engagements without having to worry about their kids welfare
