About the Cause
Gender equality is a cross-cutting theme in all Dubai Cares’ education programs with an approach that aims to secure equal access for boys and girls to safe learning environments with adequate facilities, materials and academic support from gender sensitized teachers and communities.
My Story
Thousands of children are abandoned and abused across South Africa every day. Many are sent to a place of safety or fostered by loving families, but those that are not are usually housed by Girls and Boys Town (GBTSA) through the Children’s Court. In the KwaZulu-Natal, GBTSA has a Family Home for Girls that provides residential care to help heal the broken heart of the girl child. Already overburdened by the weight of life circumstances such as physical and emotional abuse, which led to them being placed in GBTSA’s care, the girls now have to contend with the trauma of a fire at their home (Verulam Family Home for Girls). The world recently celebrated International Day of the Girl Child. Unfortunately, the Verulam Family Home girls are among those that were not able to celebrate this day in the year 2021. The Home caught fire on the 22nd of July 2021. Since then, the girls have been staying in a temporary shelter while they wait for the rebuilding of place they once called home. Although the insurance will cover some expenses for rebuilding the Home, GBTSA needs to cover the excess expenses plus the expenses of implementing safety measures to ensure that safety for the girls comes first. 100% of the funds raised will go towards rebuilding the Verulam Family Home for Girls. Any donations excess will fund programmes and counseling and quality education for the girls. Let’s help the girls. Thank you.
