My Story
Our story began on National Day 2018 when Repton School Dubai, announced that they would be partnering with Dubai Cares and buildOn to adopt a school in Senegal. We raised the money with incredible speed, due to the generous outpouring of support from the Repton community. After such a successful start and with seeing firsthand how life-changing this project is for the children in Senegal when a team of 8 Reptonians travelled to Western Senegal to help construct the first school, we continued raising funds to build a second school. The amount was raised by early 2020, due to a range of wonderful fundraising initiatives such as a Dirham Makes A Difference collection jar, Winter Fayre, Student Council Sponsored Silence, Crazy Hair Day, London Dairy ice cream sale and a plethora of dress-up days. With the magnificent efforts from both the Junior and Senior School, we committed to building a third school. When the COVID 19 pandemic struck in February, all fundraising ground to an understandable halt. The Senegal trek, for a team of 15 from the Repton community to build the second school was cancelled and everything was put on hold as we began to navigate through such uncertain times. After such a challenging period of time, we are thrilled to announce that as of October 2020, the second school is now under construction and should be completed and ready to accept students from January 2021. As for our third school, we want to finish what we started. We currently have just over 100,000 AED left to raise to ensure we are successful in adopting our third school in Senegal. We wanted to create an online fundraising platform that Repton students, families and friends can donate to if they wish, to make sure we can give the gift of education to even more students in Senegal. We hope you will join us as we look to complete our remarkable mission and reach our goal of 142,000 AED, so we can finish what we so eagerly started at the beginning of the year.
