About the Cause
Poor health and nutrition negatively affect children’s school attendance and ability to learn. We implement school feeding programs that look for alternative ways to ensure sustainable supply of nutritious foods to school children and young people in urban and marginalized areas.
In addition, contaminated water and poor sanitation are big factors that result in the death of children worldwide. In our programs, we always include what is called WASH which means Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. This is done through the design and construction of child-friendly and gender sensitive facilities for sanitation, such as latrines and hand-washing stations. We also provide clean water supply by building water wells and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
My Story
My name is Hayder Hasan Al Sikafi; I’m 42 years old, I’m from Iraq, and I have two kids. Since 2003, I've moved from one city to another looking for suitable work to improve my monthly income. As I do not have a permanent house, I left my father’s house when I got married. As a result, I lived in a 40-square-meter container or a small flat close to my workplace. Since 2013, I've returned to my hometown, which is 170 km south of Baghdad (the capital of Iraq), and I’ve rented a small house to my family. My monthly income is paid out to cover my rent, which is approximately $400 per month, and the remainder to cover my other living expenses. Despite working 8 hours per day, my income does not last to cover the 30 days of the month. As a result, I do not have any second income to enable me to buy a house or even a small plot of land to build a house for them, but as you may know, property prices are very expensive in Iraq after 2003; 1 sq. m. costs between $ 1000 and $ 1500. I would appreciate your help and support, which is why I’m writing to you today. If you will donate a suitable amount to buy a small house to protect my family’s future if I quit work, they will be homeless because they do not have any other income to pay the rental or even to eat. After all, there is no social security after retirement, illness, or death. With your generous help, you’d save them and save their future after my death. I’d like to thank you for any help.
