About the Cause
Poor health and nutrition negatively affect children’s school attendance and ability to learn. We implement school feeding programs that look for alternative ways to ensure sustainable supply of nutritious foods to school children and young people in urban and marginalized areas.
In addition, contaminated water and poor sanitation are big factors that result in the death of children worldwide. In our programs, we always include what is called WASH which means Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. This is done through the design and construction of child-friendly and gender sensitive facilities for sanitation, such as latrines and hand-washing stations. We also provide clean water supply by building water wells and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
My Story
In Kenya, diabetic children have to cover long distances to access quality treatment and diabetes professionals while struggling with poverty and stigma. Households experience competing for financial priorities forcing a difficult choice between food, living expenses, education, and essential health care. Families with diabetic children find that it costs 60% of their income to spend on diabetes-related supplies and services worsening their financial position, this situation leads to children dropping out of school and engage in child labor. Many children in Kenya only survive for a few months post-diagnosis because of late diagnosis. Additionally, the prevalence of prediabetes & type 2 diabetes has continued to rise at an alarming rate among pediatric populations brought up by modifiable lifestyle risk factors such as obesity. Uncontrolled and undiagnosed diabetes cases can lead to serious and costly complications such as kidney failure, blindness, stroke, hypertension, nerve damage, amputation, gum disease, diabetic Ketoacidosis, and other cardiovascular diseases. The project seeks to prevent and help reverse the impact of diabetes in children by creating a safe and supportive environment. Our intervention strategies include programs and services designed to successfully control, manage and support children with diabetes.
