About the Cause
Poor health and nutrition negatively affect children’s school attendance and ability to learn. We implement school feeding programs that look for alternative ways to ensure sustainable supply of nutritious foods to school children and young people in urban and marginalized areas.
In addition, contaminated water and poor sanitation are big factors that result in the death of children worldwide. In our programs, we always include what is called WASH which means Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. This is done through the design and construction of child-friendly and gender sensitive facilities for sanitation, such as latrines and hand-washing stations. We also provide clean water supply by building water wells and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
My Story
Only 5% of the 30,000 households in all these communities have an average sanitary facility- a simple pit latrine and only 5% of the 31 villages where our children live and walk to school have a good source of water supply-natural springs-from which they have their water. Majority of the community households take their water from the three rivers which run through the districts carrying along with it dirt’s of all kinds resulting from the unsanitary conditions of the communities. In the dry season January to July, the rivers are completely dry and children have to queue up along “sand dug water holes” spending hours fetching water in turns. Sometimes they fight and most times they go late to school. The most common and deadly diseases in the region Sironko district are Diarrhea, Typhoid, Eye Infection, Skin and/Scalp Infection, Schistosomiasis and Malaria. The project is very important as it will build clean domestic water for vulnerable local people. This will reduce thirsty for these vulnerable communities, improve on farming for the farmers. It helps in taking action to build safety and resilience, and reduce future hazard impacts. The project will ensure that there are measures to lessen diseases that result from poor sanitation. The gift of water saves lives, which is a hugely rewardable action. Allah says in the Qur’an, "And whoever saves one [a life], it is as if he had saved all of mankind(Q5:32) Your donation will help provide clean and safe water to the communities
